Here's a quick guide to how we elect our committee, and how to stand...
How do I stand for committee?
First, you have to let the secretary know that you want to stand, stating which position you want to stand for.
Nomination slips are handed out to everyone during the week of our annual show
and will state when they need to be returned to the Secretary.
Which positions can I stand for?
At the moment, you can stand for six types of position (and there is nothing to stop you standing for more than one of them if you want):
- President (2 year term): In overall charge of the group. To stand for
President you'll need to have some ideas about how to run the group.
- Vice President (2 year term): Assists the President with the
direction of the Group.
- Treasurer (2 year term): Manages the group's finances, keeps financial records and collects membership fees.
- Secretary (2 year term): Manages the administration of the group, keeps
membership records and deals with correspondence and liaises with other groups
and NODA.
- Minute Secretary (2 year term): Manages the administration of records
and minutes for all meetings.
- Committee Members (1 year term): On the committee to undertake other tasks that are useful to the group that year, and help in a flexible way. Ordinary members take charge of things like publicity,
programme compilation, workshops, fundraising etc..
How soon does the new committee take over?
Not until the end of the AGM. This means that if we elect a new President during the meeting, the old
President carries on until the meeting closes.
